CM Revanth Reddy Moves to Enforce Parental Support Through Salary Deductions
CM Revanth Reddy announces groundbreaking legislation to support elderly parents.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Saturday that the state government is set to introduce a law that would deduct 10–15% of the salaries of government employees who neglect their parents. The deducted amount will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the employees’ parents, ensuring financial support for the elderly. This announcement was made during an event at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad, where Reddy distributed appointment letters to 783 newly selected Group-II officers.
Reddy directed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao to form a committee of newly recruited officers to draft the legislation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of senior citizens. Addressing the youth, particularly the newly appointed officers, Reddy urged them to honor their parents’ sacrifices. “You have become officers because of your parents’ hard work and dedication. Never forget your roots or where you came from,” he said, underscoring the importance of gratitude and responsibility toward family.
The Chief Minister also used the platform to criticize the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, accusing it of neglecting unemployment and prioritizing personal wealth over public welfare. In a veiled reference to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Reddy remarked, “They competed with the Nizam, Adani, and Ambani in amassing wealth, dreaming of turning their son-in-law into an Ambani and their daughter into a Birla.” He alleged that the BRS government confined political and economic opportunities to Rao’s family, leaving unemployed youth in the lurch. “Not a single Group-I post was filled during their 10-year rule,” Reddy claimed.

Reddy also took aim at the BRS government’s handling of the Kaleshwaram project, calling it a monumental failure. “If they had worked with commitment, the project would not have collapsed. No other state or country has witnessed such a disaster,” he said, questioning Rao’s claims of earning Rs 1 crore per acre through farming. “Why hasn’t he shared this secret with our farmers?” Reddy asked, accusing BRS leaders of looting Telangana’s resources.
Highlighting his government’s achievements, Reddy noted that over five lakh candidates applied for Group-II posts, with around two lakh appearing for the exam conducted by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC). Of these, 783 were selected, a testament to the improved efficiency of the TGPSC under the current Congress government. “You can see the difference in the qualifications and capability of TGPSC members now compared to the previous regime,” he said.
Reddy also claimed credit for resolving long-pending issues, such as the Scheduled Caste sub-categorization, and completing a caste survey in Telangana. “We have compelled the Prime Minister to announce a caste census across the country,” he declared, positioning his government as a catalyst for national policy changes.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, who also spoke at the event, described the Congress government as a “People’s Government” committed to ensuring that no one in Telangana remains idle. “Every child should attend school, study in English medium, acquire skills, and secure employment,” he said, outlining the government’s vision for youth empowerment. Vikramarka highlighted initiatives like the establishment of Young India International Schools in every Assembly constituency and the rapid development of a Skill University in Future City. Additionally, all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state are being upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres to enhance employability.
Vikramarka called the distribution of appointment letters to 783 candidates a “historic milestone,” noting that such a large-scale recruitment drive was unprecedented in both united Andhra Pradesh and post-bifurcation Telangana. He emphasized that the demand for a separate Telangana was rooted in the aspiration for jobs with self-respect, a goal the current government is striving to fulfill.
Despite challenges, including legal hurdles allegedly created by the BRS through court cases and misinformation campaigns on social media, Reddy stated that his government had successfully filled around 60,000 government jobs in its first year. The proposed legislation to support neglected parents is yet another bold step by the Congress government to blend social welfare with accountability, signaling a new era of governance in Telangana.
