CM Revanth Reddy Denies Govt Role Amid Moinabad Drugs Case Controversy
Telangana CM denies intervention in Moinabad drugs case; SIT probe initiated, TDP MP granted bail per rules.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday clarified that the state government did not intervene in the Moinabad farmhouse drugs case involving Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Putta Mahesh Kumar. The Chief Minister emphasized that Mahesh Kumar’s release on station bail was granted strictly according to legal procedures.
Speaking informally with journalists in Delhi, Revanth Reddy stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to thoroughly probe the case. The Telangana Director General of Police had on Tuesday set up a nine-member SIT to investigate the incident, which involved alleged drug consumption by several high-profile individuals.
The case arose following a raid on the farmhouse of former BRS MLA Rohith Reddy at Moinabad, near Hyderabad, on the night of March 14. Conducted by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE Force) in coordination with the police, the operation led to the arrest of 11 individuals, including a woman. Drug tests reportedly returned positive for six people, including Rohith Reddy and TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar.

Putta Mahesh Kumar and seven other accused were released on station bail the following day, while Rohith Reddy, his brother Ritesh Reddy, and Delhi-based businessman Namith Sharma were remanded to judicial custody after being produced in court. The SIT is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the raid and any potential violations of law.
In a separate discussion, the Chief Minister predicted that the next Telangana Assembly elections are likely to be held in 2029, not 2028, and voiced support for the early implementation of women’s reservation in both Parliament and the state legislature.
During his visit to Delhi, Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and party MPs, met senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi at Parliament. He also introduced his close associate Vem Narender Reddy, recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, to Congress leaders. The delegation further met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary K.C. Venugopal to discuss ongoing political developments in the state.
