CM Omar Abdullah Meets Civil Society, Offers Prayers for Iran Strike Victims
J&K CM Omar Abdullah met civil society in Srinagar and urged peace while offering prayers for those killed in Iran.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday met with members of civil society at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar and offered ‘Fatiha’ (prayers for the dead) for the Iranian Supreme Leader and others killed in recent strikes in Iran.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, the interaction included religious leaders, social activists, and representatives from business and trade sectors. Participants expressed concern over the situation in Iran and conveyed condolences for the loss of lives. Omar Abdullah stressed the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that expressions of grief remain peaceful and responsible.
This was his first interaction with civil society in Kashmir since the US-Israel strikes on Iran began. He condemned the attacks and emphasised that any change of regime in Iran should be determined solely by the Iranian people, not external powers. He has also been coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the safe return of Kashmiri students in Iran and had earlier advised parents to follow MEA guidance before Iranian airspace was shut.
