Chhattisgarh Organises Mass Weddings For Over 2,300 Couples Under State Welfare Scheme

Chhattisgarh to host mass marriages for over 2,300 couples under state welfare scheme tomorrow.

The state of Chhattisgarh is set to host large-scale mass marriage ceremonies on Friday under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, with more than 2,300 couples expected to be married simultaneously across all districts. The initiative, organised by the state government, will bring together couples from Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and particularly vulnerable tribal communities, with each marriage conducted according to respective cultural and religious traditions.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the programme as a reflection of equality, dignity, and social unity. He said the initiative goes beyond performing marriages and is aimed at strengthening social harmony while ensuring welfare support reaches economically weaker sections of society. Officials said the simultaneous ceremonies across districts highlight the scale and administrative coordination involved in the programme.

The Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, launched in 2006, provides financial assistance of ₹35,000 to each eligible newlywed couple, along with essential household items required to begin married life. The scheme primarily targets families living below the poverty line, with eligibility linked to ration card records under the state’s food security system. It also extends support to widows, orphans, and destitute women, ensuring broader social inclusion.

Officials noted that the programme has previously received significant recognition for its scale and execution. On February 10, 2026, a record 6,412 couples were married in a single mass ceremony held at Science College Ground, an event that was reportedly entered into the Golden Book of World Records. During that ceremony, the Chief Minister personally blessed over 1,300 couples, while others participated virtually from their respective districts.

The government said extensive preparations have been completed for Friday’s ceremonies, including arrangements for venues, food distribution, drinking water, healthcare services, and security across all participating districts. The Department of Women and Child Development is overseeing coordination to ensure smooth execution and a dignified experience for all couples and their families.

Officials added that the participation of diverse communities reflects the cultural plurality of Chhattisgarh and the government’s focus on inclusive welfare governance. The initiative is being seen as a blend of tradition and public policy, aiming to transform marriage from a financial burden into a socially supported milestone for underprivileged families.
