Chhattisgarh DRG Forces Kill Three Maoists, Including Woman in Sukma Encounter

Security forces eliminate three Naxalites in Chhattisgarh clash.

In a significant development in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, security personnel engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Thursday morning. The encounter resulted in the elimination of three Naxalites, including one woman cadre, marking yet another success for the forces deployed in the region. The operation highlights the persistent efforts to curb left-wing extremism in one of India's most affected areas.

The gunbattle erupted on a densely forested hill within the jurisdiction of the Golapalli police station. A specialized team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) had launched a targeted search operation following credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of armed Maoist groups in the vicinity. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed that the forces acted swiftly upon encountering the insurgents, leading to an intense firefight that lasted for several hours.

Authorities have successfully recovered the bodies of the three deceased Naxalites from the site, along with any potential arms or ammunition that may have been in their possession. The inclusion of a female cadre among the eliminated underscores the diverse composition of Maoist ranks, which often involve local recruits drawn into the insurgency. As of now, the identities of the slain individuals are being verified, and the area continues to be combed for any remaining threats.

The search operation remains active, with additional reinforcements deployed to ensure complete sanitization of the zone. Police officials have indicated that further recoveries and details are anticipated as the forces deepen their probe into the encounter site. This incident is part of a broader strategy to dismantle Maoist networks through intelligence-driven actions in the Bastar region.

This latest encounter brings the total number of Naxalites neutralized in Chhattisgarh this year to 284, reflecting the intensified campaign against left-wing extremism. The majority of these eliminations—255—have occurred in the Bastar division, encompassing seven districts such as Sukma, Bijapur, and Dantewada, known as strongholds of Maoist activity. Additionally, 27 Naxalites were killed in Gariaband district under the Raipur division, and two in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district within the Durg division, demonstrating the widespread scope of security operations across the state.
