Chhattisgarh CM Launches Major Rural Infrastructure Drive For Girls

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has launched a statewide campaign to construct toilets for girls in all rural government schools and provide every village with a crematorium and waiting shed. The initiative is intended to improve essential public infrastructure across rural areas and will be implemented over several months.

The facilities will be developed under the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), also known as the VB-G RAM G scheme. The state government plans to use the programme to address gaps in sanitation facilities for female students while also improving infrastructure required by rural communities for conducting last rites.

Sai launched the “Meri Beti-Mera Abhiman,” or “My Daughter, My Pride,” campaign during a press conference at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan. The implementation drive is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2026, and continue until January 26, 2027, giving departments and local authorities a defined period to complete the planned works.

Under the campaign, the government will construct 6,671 toilets for girls at state-run schools in rural areas. The project has been allocated ₹286.85 crore, with each toilet unit estimated to cost ₹4.30 lakh. The facilities are expected to improve privacy, hygiene and access to appropriate sanitation for female students attending government schools.

The campaign also provides for the construction of crematoriums and waiting sheds in every village. Such infrastructure is intended to give rural communities designated and better-equipped spaces for funeral ceremonies, along with sheltered areas for families and others attending the rites. The government did not provide a separate expenditure figure for this component in the available announcement.

The success of the programme will depend on timely construction, coordination with village-level bodies and continued maintenance after the facilities are completed. While the campaign sets targets for physical infrastructure, ensuring reliable water supply, cleanliness and usability will also be important. The government has presented the initiative as part of its broader effort to strengthen dignity and basic services in rural Chhattisgarh.
