Centre Commits Complete Support To Arunachal Flood Victims: Nadda

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday assured that the Centre would extend every possible assistance to Arunachal Pradesh for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction following the recent floods and cloudbursts that affected several parts of the state. During his visit to the flood-hit Keyi Panyor district, Nadda said the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands firmly with the people of Arunachal Pradesh and will continue to provide all necessary support during the recovery process.

After inspecting the affected areas, Nadda chaired a review meeting in Itanagar with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, state ministers, MLAs and senior administrative officials. The meeting reviewed the extent of damage to infrastructure, public property and livelihoods while focusing on expediting relief measures and strengthening coordination between the Centre and the state government. The Union Minister directed all concerned departments to intensify relief, rehabilitation and healthcare efforts to address the immediate and long-term needs of affected families.

In a series of posts on X, Nadda expressed condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the disaster and wished a speedy recovery to those injured or affected. He said the Central government would continue to provide prompt financial assistance and ensure that rehabilitation and reconstruction work is carried out in a time-bound manner. Reaffirming the Centre's commitment, he said no effort would be spared in supporting flood victims and rebuilding the affected regions.

The minister's visit came a day after he toured flood-affected areas in Assam and Nagaland to assess the impact of heavy rainfall across the Northeast. The ongoing floods and cloudbursts have caused extensive damage to infrastructure, homes and agricultural land in several states, prompting coordinated relief operations by both the Central and state governments. The Centre has emphasised the need for close coordination to ensure swift assistance reaches affected communities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier assured Members of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland that the Central government would continue working closely with the respective state governments to address the challenges arising from the floods. Union ministers, including Kiren Rijiju and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, have also conducted surveys of the affected areas and announced comprehensive Central assistance, including compensation for losses to crops, agricultural land and livestock, as well as support for rebuilding homes destroyed in the disaster. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed confidence that joint efforts by the Centre and the state will help restore normalcy while developing long-term solutions to better manage future natural disasters.
