Centre Advises Nationwide Adoption Of Chhattisgarh Irrigation Model After National Recognition

Centre recommends Chhattisgarh irrigation model for nationwide adoption.

Chhattisgarh’s irrigation and water conservation initiatives have received national recognition after the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti commended the state’s Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) modernisation model and recommended its adoption by other states and Union Territories. The acknowledgement highlights the state’s efforts to improve irrigation efficiency and strengthen scientific water resource management.

According to officials, the Centre has issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories, noting Chhattisgarh’s proactive implementation of M-CADWM projects using its own resources. The ministry observed that the state has aligned its execution with national guidelines and objectives, focusing on improving utilisation of existing irrigation infrastructure and addressing efficiency gaps in water distribution.

The central government described the initiative as an effective model for maximising irrigation potential and enhancing agricultural productivity. It further stated that Chhattisgarh’s approach could serve as a flexible blueprint for other regions, which may adapt the model based on their local geography, resource availability, and agricultural requirements.

The Chief Minister said the recognition is an honour for the state’s farming community and administrative machinery, adding that Chhattisgarh remains committed to strengthening good governance practices. He emphasised that scientific water management is central to improving agricultural output and increasing farmers’ income across the state.

Reiterating the government’s long-term vision, Sai said the state aims to ensure optimal use of every drop of water through innovation-driven policies and infrastructure development. He added that Chhattisgarh will continue to prioritise sustainable irrigation expansion as part of its broader goal of building a more developed and agriculturally resilient state.
