Cement-Laden Goods Train Derails in Bihar’s Jamui, Traffic Hit on Howrah-Delhi Line

A cement-laden goods train derailed late on December 27, 2025, around 11:25 pm near Telwa Bazar Halt in Bihar's Jamui district, with reports varying between 8 and 19 wagons derailing on the Barua River bridge, several plunging into the river below and severely disrupting traffic on the crucial Howrah-Patna-Delhi main line under Eastern Railway's Asansol division.

The incident unfolded between Lahabon and Simultala stations as the train traveled from Jasidih to Jhajha, accompanied by a loud crash that scattered thousands of cement bags across the bridge, tracks, and surrounding areas, blocking both Up and Down lines on the Kiul-Jasidih section and halting numerous passenger and freight services overnight.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred in a relatively remote area, though the derailment caused significant inconvenience to passengers, with dozens of express trains—including key long-distance services—either cancelled, diverted via alternative routes like Dhanbad-Gaya, or rescheduled for the following days.

Accident Relief Trains equipped with heavy cranes were immediately dispatched from nearby stations in Asansol, Madhupur, and Jhajha, where technical teams, safety personnel, and disaster management units worked through the night on a war footing to clear debris, rerail wagons, and repair damaged tracks and bridge sections.

Eastern Railway authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine the exact cause of the derailment, with preliminary assessments focusing on potential track maintenance issues, mechanical failures, or wagon conditions, while emphasizing that services originating from Jhajha remain largely unaffected amid ongoing efforts to restore full operations.
