CAN'T TAKE AWAY RAINCOATS!! Suresh Gopi Assures ASHA Workers of Delhi Hearing

The Accredited Social Health Activist workers are calling for an increase in their honorarium and have been protesting outside the Secretariat in Trivandrum for over 20 days.

Union Minister Suresh Gopi announced on Sunday that he will travel to Delhi on March 3 to address the demands of ASHA workers, who have been staging a protest outside the Secretariat here for over 20 days. The Accredited Social Health Activist workers are calling for an increase in their honorarium.

Speaking to the protesters for the second time in two days, Gopi, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism, reaffirmed his commitment to discuss their issues with Union Health Minister J P Nadda. "If necessary, I will also raise the matter with the prime minister," he assured the group, who persisted with their demonstration despite heavy rainfall in the state capital.

On Saturday, Gopi had met the striking workers and promised to bring their concerns to the attention of PM Narendra Modi and Nadda. During Sunday’s visit, he reportedly handed out umbrellas and raincoats to support them amid the downpour.

When told that the police had removed the tarpaulin sheltering the protesters, Gopi refrained from criticizing the administration’s decision. "I won’t comment on their actions, but they can’t take away the raincoats these workers are wearing," he quipped to the media.

Unfazed, the ASHA workers told reporters they remain resolute. "We’ve endured long hours in scorching heat and rain during our work. We’re prepared to face the same while protesting," they declared.
