Caller Demands Rs 30,000 For Alleged NEET Paper, Police Launch Investigation

Police investigate claim involving alleged NEET paper sale.

The Ajmer Police has launched an investigation into allegations of a NEET paper leak and an associated fraud scheme after claims surfaced that an unidentified individual was demanding money from students by offering what he purported to be the examination paper. The development comes as lakhs of medical aspirants across the country prepare for a fresh round of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), one of India's most competitive entrance examinations.

The probe was initiated following a complaint filed by Krishna Singh Thakur, the student union President of DAV College in Ajmer. According to Thakur, students were allegedly being targeted through video calls in which an unknown man displayed what he claimed was the NEET question paper and demanded payment in exchange for sharing it. The allegations have raised concerns about attempts to exploit anxious candidates ahead of the examination.

Thakur said he first learned about the matter from a first-year student at the college who informed him about the alleged offer. To verify the claim, he contacted the number himself. During the interaction, the caller allegedly displayed a document claimed to be the NEET paper and demanded Rs 30,000 for access to it. Thakur recorded the conversation and later submitted the evidence to the police.

"The NEET exam is tomorrow. The students are being misled and extorted. I was shown a paper and told to pay Rs 30,000 for it," Thakur said. He further alleged that the caller sent a QR code to facilitate the money transfer, promising to share the purported examination paper once the payment was made. The authenticity of the document shown during the call has not been established.

According to Thakur, several students may have already fallen victim to the alleged scam. He urged NEET aspirants not to be influenced by claims of leaked papers and instead focus on their examination preparation. He also met Additional Superintendent of Police Himanshu Jangid and handed over all available digital evidence, including the call recording, the QR code used for payment requests, and the mobile number linked to the caller.

Police officials are now examining the material provided and tracing the identity of the individual behind the alleged operation. Investigators are expected to determine whether the incident involves an actual paper leak or is part of a larger fraud designed to deceive students seeking an unfair advantage. Authorities have also advised candidates and parents to remain cautious of such claims and immediately report any suspicious approaches related to examination papers or admissions.
