Cab Driver Cancels Ride After Passenger Smokes Inside Car Without Permission
Viral video shows cab driver cancelling ride over passenger smoking dispute.
A video showing a cab driver cancelling a ride after a passenger allegedly lit a cigarette inside the vehicle without permission has gone viral on social media, sparking a wider debate over passenger etiquette and drivers’ rights. The clip shows the driver confronting the passenger after noticing him smoking and making it clear that cigarettes were not allowed inside his car.
The video, shared on X by Lakshay Mehta, shows the driver asking the passenger whether he had sought permission before lighting the cigarette. The driver tells him that smoking is not permitted inside the vehicle. The passenger allegedly responds by arguing that because he had booked the taxi, he did not need to ask anyone for permission to smoke during the journey.
The driver firmly rejects the passenger’s argument and says that although the vehicle is being used as a taxi, it remains his car and his rules must be respected. He then decides not to continue the journey and asks the passenger to leave. The driver says he is cancelling the ride and does not want the passenger’s money before adding, “I’m a taxi driver, not your servant.”

The date and location of the incident have not been independently verified. However, the video quickly gained attention online after being shared on social media, with users discussing the rights of drivers to set rules inside their vehicles. The confrontation has also raised questions about how passengers should behave in privately owned vehicles operating as commercial taxis.
Many social media users supported the driver’s decision, arguing that paying for a ride does not give a passenger the right to smoke or ignore the vehicle owner’s rules. Several users pointed out that cigarette smoke can remain inside a car for a long time, potentially affecting the driver and future passengers who may be uncomfortable with the smell or exposed to second-hand smoke.
The viral clip has renewed discussion about mutual respect between passengers and drivers using app-based and other taxi services. While passengers pay for transportation, many users argued that drivers retain the right to maintain cleanliness and set reasonable rules inside their vehicles. The incident has continued to draw reactions online, with most commenters backing the driver for refusing to continue the ride.
