BYD Factory Parking Facility In Shenzhen Catches Fire, No Casualties Reported
Fire breaks out at BYD factory parking facility in Shenzhen; blaze contained with no reported casualties.
A massive fire broke out at a multi-level parking garage within the BYD manufacturing complex in Shenzhen’s Pingshan district on Tuesday, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky and triggering a large-scale emergency response, according to reports and videos circulating on social media.
Eyewitness footage widely shared online showed flames rapidly spreading across sections of the “three-dimensional” parking structure, with dense smoke billowing over the surrounding industrial area. Emergency response teams, including fire trucks and police units, were deployed to the site as authorities worked to contain the blaze and secure the premises.
Local emergency authorities and the automaker stated that the affected structure was used exclusively for storing test, validation, scrapped, and end-of-life vehicles. They clarified that the garage did not contain production lines or customer-ready vehicles, and that the main manufacturing operations of the plant were not directly impacted by the incident.

BYD confirmed that the fire occurred in a facility housing experimental and decommissioned vehicles, and emphasised that active assembly lines and finished vehicles intended for delivery were not affected. Fire and rescue teams eventually brought the blaze under control, with no casualties reported at the time of containment.
Preliminary reports cited by Chinese media suggested that the fire may have been triggered by improper external construction activity near the site. Authorities have indicated that there is no immediate evidence linking the incident to battery defects in mass-produced vehicles, although a full investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause and extent of damage.
Officials also noted that BYD’s broader production operations at the Pingshan plant remain unaffected. The incident comes as the company continues to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure, including the rollout of thousands of flash charging stations across China, while further strengthening its global manufacturing footprint.
