Bus Fire Tragedy: 20 Burnt Alive, 16 Critical After Private Coach Erupts in Flames

Tragic fire leaves community reeling, demands safety overhaul.

A devastating fire erupted on a private bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur on October 14, 2025, claiming the lives of 20 passengers, including women and children, and leaving 16 others critically injured in a horrific incident that has shaken Rajasthan. The blaze broke out near the War Museum, approximately 20 kilometers from Jaisalmer, turning a routine journey into a deadly ordeal as flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle. BJP MLA Pratap Puri confirmed the toll, noting one victim succumbed to burns en route to Jodhpur, highlighting the severity of the tragedy.

Swift action by local authorities and military personnel stationed nearby mitigated further loss, with the Army providing initial rescue efforts and first aid before transferring the injured to Jaisalmer and Jodhpur hospitals. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma rushed to the scene, expressing profound sorrow and directing officials to ensure comprehensive medical care and support for the victims’ families. The intense heat has delayed recovery of the deceased’s bodies, with a forensic team dispatched from Jodhpur to aid the investigation into the fire’s cause.

The incident, occurring just days after a deadly hospital fire in Jaipur, has intensified calls for stringent safety measures in public transport. District Collector Pratap Singh reported ongoing efforts to manage the crisis, while a control room with helpline numbers has been established to assist affected families. Opposition leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress State President Govind Singh Dotasra, have joined in mourning, urging a thorough probe to prevent future disasters. As the community grapples with grief, the focus shifts to addressing systemic safety lapses exposed by this catastrophic event.
