BSF Thwarts Pakistani Infiltration Bid in J&K’s Kathua
Intruder shot, detained after ignoring warnings
Border Security Force (BSF) troops shot and detained a Pakistani intruder attempting to cross the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday evening, foiling a suspected infiltration bid. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in the Hiranagar sector, between Chandwan and Kothey border outposts, when alert BSF personnel spotted a group moving aggressively toward the border fence, officials said.
According to a BSF statement, the intruder ignored repeated warnings to stop, prompting troops to fire, injuring him in the leg. He was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment. “Protest being lodged with counterpart,” the BSF added, signaling a formal complaint to Pakistan Rangers. The intruder’s identity and motives are under investigation, with police suspecting links to reconnaissance or smuggling, given recent regional tensions.
The incident follows heightened security after a June 2025 infiltration attempt in Rajouri, where the Army neutralized two terrorists, recovering arms and explosives. Kathua, a frequent infiltration hotspot, saw 12 attempts in 2024, per BSF data. Social media on X, including posts from @AdityaRajKaul and @eOrganiser, praised the BSF’s vigilance but raised concerns about Pakistan’s recurring border provocations, especially post the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

With 24/7 surveillance along the 192-km IB in Jammu, bolstered by drones and night-vision devices, the BSF remains on high alert to counter further threats amid ongoing cross-border challenges.
