BSE Bomb Threat Hoax Triggers Swift Police Response
Mumbai's BSE faces bomb threat scare.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Dalal Street received a bomb threat email on Tuesday, prompting an immediate and thorough response from Mumbai Police and bomb disposal teams. The email, sent from an account identifying itself as "Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan," claimed that four RDX-based improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been planted in the BSE tower and were set to detonate at 3 p.m.
Authorities swiftly mobilized, evacuating the premises and conducting an extensive search. No suspicious objects or explosives were found, and the threat was declared a hoax. "Nothing suspicious was found," Mumbai Police confirmed in a statement.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station against an unidentified individual under sections 351(1)(b), 353(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police, in collaboration with cybercrime units, are investigating the origin of the email to identify the sender.

BSE officials notified all relevant agencies and confirmed that normal operations resumed without disruption. Authorities noted that such hoax threats are not uncommon in the current geopolitical climate but emphasized that all precautions were taken to ensure safety.
This incident follows a pattern of similar hoax bomb threats targeting sensitive locations across India, including Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office and residence earlier this year, which also proved to be false. The misuse of the name "Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan," referencing Kerala’s Chief Minister, has raised concerns about the motives behind these threats, with investigations ongoing to determine if they are linked to broader coordinated efforts.
