Brothers Ajay Pal, Amit Pal Sharma Crack UPSC as Doctors

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is considered one of India’s most challenging competitive examinations, but two brothers from Ludhiana turned their success into an unusual family achievement by moving from medicine to the civil services. Dr Ajay Pal Sharma and his younger brother Dr Amit Pal Sharma pursued careers as doctors before clearing the examination and joining the Indian civil services several years apart.

Ajay Pal Sharma, the elder of the two brothers, became a member of the 2011 batch of the Indian Police Service. His achievement marked the beginning of the family’s transition from the medical profession to public administration and policing. His journey demonstrated how candidates from professional backgrounds can shift their career paths and compete successfully in the highly demanding civil services selection process.

Five years later, his younger brother Amit Pal Sharma followed a similar path but entered a different branch of the civil services. Amit cleared the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Administrative Service in 2016. The brothers’ separate achievements in the IPS and IAS made their story distinctive, as both had first trained and worked in the medical field before entering government service.

Together, their careers represent two important areas of responsibility within India’s civil services framework.

The brothers’ story continues to serve as an inspiring example for aspirants preparing for the UPSC examination. Their success shows that a professional degree or an established career does not necessarily limit a person’s future direction.
