#BreakingNews: Rs 85 Lakh Foreign Liquor Seized From Truck in Gujarat Highway Raid
Surendranagar police seize illegal foreign liquor worth Rs 85.66 lakh hidden in a truck under fertiliser bags.
In a significant crackdown on illegal alcohol, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Surendranagar Police seized a massive consignment of foreign liquor worth Rs 85.66 lakh from a truck parked along the Chotila–Sayla National Highway on Wednesday. The total estimated value of the seizure, including the vehicle and other items, is around Rs 1.06 crore.
The truck, carrying liquor concealed beneath fertiliser bags, was intercepted following specific intelligence received by the LCB. Acting on instructions from SP Premsukh Delu to intensify action against prohibition-related offences, police conducted a detailed raid at a hotel compound near Sangani village junction in Chotila taluka.
During the operation, police recovered 11,496 bottles of illegal foreign liquor hidden under 225 bags of fertiliser. Additional items seized included the truck trailer valued at Rs 20 lakh, the fertiliser, mobile phones, and other paraphernalia linked to the smuggling operation.

Delu confirmed the seizure and said strict highway surveillance is ongoing to curb liquor trafficking. “The LCB team successfully intercepted a large consignment being moved in violation of the Prohibition Act. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all involved in the racket,” he added.
A case has been registered at Chotila Police Station under the Prohibition Act against the truck driver, vehicle owner, and other unidentified individuals involved in sending and receiving the consignment. All accused are currently absconding, and police teams are working to dismantle the smuggling network.
This seizure comes amid a broader crackdown on illegal liquor movement across Gujarat. In a similar recent operation, authorities seized foreign liquor worth Rs 1.79 crore from a truck parked at a hotel along the Rajkot–Ahmedabad highway in Surat district, highlighting the persistent challenge of liquor smuggling in the state.
