#BreakingNews: Pakistani Drone Spotted in Poonch, J&K; Army Fires 12 Rounds
The Indian Army fires on a Pakistani drone crossing the LoC in Poonch; the drone escapes back to PoK.
Indian Army troops opened fire on a Pakistani drone that crossed into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir early Sunday morning, officials confirmed. The drone briefly hovered over the Digwar area before returning to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), avoiding any direct engagement with the troops. The incident has raised renewed concerns about cross-border surveillance and aerial intrusion along the sensitive LoC region.
According to officials, the forward post personnel spotted the drone around 6:10 am and immediately responded by firing over a dozen rounds in an attempt to bring it down. Despite the gunfire, the drone managed to evade the shots and retreated back across the LoC. No casualties or damage was reported during the brief intrusion, and the Indian Army maintained heightened alert in the surrounding areas.
This marks the second encounter with a drone in the Poonch sector in the past three days. On February 27, Indian troops had also opened fire on a Pakistani drone detected in the same region. The repeated sightings suggest ongoing surveillance or intelligence-gathering activity by drones along this stretch of the border, prompting increased vigilance by security forces.
A search operation was immediately launched following Sunday’s incident to ensure that the drone had not dropped weapons, narcotics, or any other contraband into Indian territory. Officials emphasized that such precautionary measures are standard protocol whenever aerial intrusions are detected, given the sensitive nature of the LoC and the potential security risks posed by unmanned devices.
The Poonch district has historically been a hotspot for cross-border activity, including occasional ceasefire violations and surveillance operations. Security forces stationed along the LoC are trained to respond swiftly to any intrusion, and drone sightings have increasingly become a common challenge for troops, highlighting the evolving nature of border security in the region.
Authorities have reiterated that India’s defensive measures along the LoC remain robust, with continuous monitoring and rapid-response protocols in place to counter aerial and ground-based threats. While the drone safely returned to PoK on Sunday, the incident underscores the need for continued vigilance and coordination between forward posts and central command to prevent any potential escalation or security compromise.
