#BREAKING: Fierce Gunfight Ongoing in Kathua; Senior Officer, 3 Jawans Injured

Senior Officer Among Four Policemen Injured as Kathua Gunfight Intensifies

A fierce gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district is ongoing right now, leaving four policemen, including a senior officer, injured as security forces clash with terrorists in the Juthana area.

The encounter, part of a massive anti-terror operation ongoing since Sunday, erupted this morning when forces spotted the terrorists near Jakhole village in Ghati Juthana, Rajbagh, roughly 30 kilometers from an earlier skirmish in Hiranagar.

Among the wounded is Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Dheeraj Katoch, alongside three other jawans from the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The injured were swiftly evacuated to a nearby hospital, where their conditions are reported as stable.

Reinforcements have poured into the area, and intermittent firing continues as the operation unfolds, with the terrorists believed to be the same group that escaped Sunday’s encounter in Hiranagar after a half-hour gunbattle.

The operation, led by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Bhim Sen Tuti, follows days of exhaustive searches across Kathua’s rugged terrain. On Monday, security teams recovered four M4 carbine magazines, two grenades, a bulletproof jacket, and bomb-making materials near Hiranagar, hinting at the group’s capabilities.

Authorities suspect the terrorists infiltrated from Pakistan via a ravine or tunnel, exploiting the district’s proximity to the International Border. As the standoff persists, the region remains on high alert, with forces determined to neutralize the threat.
