In a groundbreaking move to uplift the state’s agricultural community, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared on Sunday that farmers will soon access permanent power connections for a nominal fee of Rs 5. The announcement, made during a farmers’ meet in Bhopal, reflects the BJP-led government’s commitment to easing the burdens of cultivators and enhancing rural infrastructure.

Speaking to a large gathering, Yadav revealed that the Madhya Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company will spearhead the initiative, targeting farmers currently without stable electricity access. “We aim to improve farmers’ lives by eliminating power-related woes,” he stated, emphasizing the scheme’s potential to revolutionize agricultural productivity. The low-cost connection is poised to benefit thousands, particularly in remote villages where infrastructure has historically lagged.

The Chief Minister also outlined an ambitious plan to distribute 30 lakh solar irrigation pumps over the next three years, aligning with the state’s push toward sustainable energy. “Farmers will not only receive free solar power for irrigation but can also sell surplus energy back to the government,” Yadav added, hinting at a dual benefit of energy independence and additional income. This builds on earlier promises to provide solar pumps to 40,000 farmers by 2028, showcasing a scaled-up vision.

Yadav took a swipe at the previous Congress regime, claiming villages lacked electricity, roads, and basic amenities during their tenure. “Under BJP rule, we’ve turned things around,” he asserted.
