BJP's Pravesh Wahi Elected Delhi Mayor; Monika Pant Becomes Deputy Mayor in MCD Elections
The BJP's Pravesh Wahi is elected Delhi Mayor with 156 votes; Monika Pant becomes Deputy Mayor in MCD elections.
Pravesh Wahi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor from Rohini East, has been elected as the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after securing a clear majority in the voting process held on Wednesday. His election marks a significant political development in the civic body, with support extending beyond the BJP’s core numbers.
Wahi received a total of 156 votes, which included backing from 14 members of the Indraprastha Vikas Party, strengthening his mandate in the mayoral contest. In contrast, the Congress candidate Hazi Zaraf secured only nine votes, reflecting a wide margin in favour of the BJP-led bloc in the civic house.
In the same election process, Monika Pant, a BJP councillor from Anand Vihar, was elected as the deputy mayor of Delhi with an identical vote count, further consolidating the party’s control over key positions in the Municipal Corporation. Her election alongside Wahi signals a unified leadership structure within the civic administration.

Along with the mayoral and deputy mayoral posts, the BJP also secured important positions in the standing committee. Jai Bhagwan Yadav from Begumpur and Manish Chadha from Paharganj were elected to the committee, strengthening the party’s influence over administrative and financial decision-making within the corporation.
The results underline the BJP’s strong position in the MCD following the latest round of civic elections, with the party managing to secure leadership roles across key governing bodies. The outcome is expected to shape the direction of municipal governance in Delhi, particularly in areas related to infrastructure, civic services, and urban management.
