BJP Targets TN Government Over Crimes Against Women, Plans June 18 Protest

BJP cites rising crimes, announces statewide protest campaign.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the ruling government in Tamil Nadu over what it described as a rise in sexual crimes against women and children, alleging that concerns over safety and law and order have intensified across the state. The party also announced a large-scale protest in Chennai on June 18 to press for stronger measures to prevent such crimes.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran accused the state government of failing to provide adequate security for women and girls. He claimed that five girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in separate incidents across Tamil Nadu on a single day, describing the situation as deeply alarming. According to him, the incidents reflected a broader deterioration in public safety and had created a sense of fear among residents.

Nagenthran also referred to the recent death of a three-year-old girl near Gummidipoondi, who allegedly died after being sexually assaulted. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed debate over the safety of women and children in the state. Police have arrested a 19-year-old migrant worker from Bihar in connection with the case, and further investigations are underway.

In a post on social media platform X, the BJP leader reiterated his allegation that multiple cases of sexual assault involving children had been reported on the same day in different parts of Tamil Nadu. He argued that such incidents highlighted the urgent need for stronger preventive measures, faster investigations and stricter enforcement of laws aimed at protecting women and minors.

The BJP has sought to make women’s safety a key political issue, with Nagenthran announcing that the party would organise a major protest in Chennai on June 18. The demonstration, to be held under his leadership, is expected to focus on demands for improved law enforcement, enhanced protection mechanisms for women and children, and greater accountability in handling cases of sexual violence.

The allegations and planned protest are likely to intensify the political confrontation between the BJP and the ruling establishment in Tamil Nadu. While the state government has not immediately responded to the latest remarks, the issue of women’s safety continues to remain a matter of public concern, particularly in the wake of recent incidents that have drawn widespread attention and condemnation.
