BJP's New Team Photo Reveals A Bold Nari Shakti Statement

BJP's new team photo highlights prominent representation of women leaders.

Women leaders took a prominent position in a group photograph with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing attention to the increased representation of women in the BJP’s newly announced national organisational team. The photograph featured several senior women leaders, including BJP Mahila Morcha president Roop Kumari Choudhary, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, former Union Minister Bharti Pravin Pawar, senior leader Rekha Verma and D Purandeshwari. Their presence in the front row was seen as highlighting the party’s emphasis on women’s participation in its organisational structure.

The photograph came days after BJP national president Nitin Nabin announced the party’s new national office-bearers on August 17. The organisational changes brought together experienced politicians, younger leaders and representatives from different regions and social groups. Several women were assigned significant responsibilities, with Vasundhara Raje Scindia, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma and Bharti Pravin Pawar appointed as national vice-presidents. Roop Kumari Choudhary was retained in a key organisational role as president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.

The new structure also saw former Union minister Smriti Irani return to a prominent organisational position as a national general secretary. Other women leaders, including Kavita Patidar and Sangeeta Yadav, were appointed as national secretaries. The appointments have contributed to the perception that women have been given a sizeable presence in the BJP’s latest organisational arrangement. The team combines established political figures with younger leaders as the party seeks to strengthen its organisational network across states and communities.

The emphasis on women comes against the broader political discussion around women’s representation in Indian politics. The 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures has been a major issue in recent years, with the legislation receiving political attention even as its implementation remains linked to the delimitation process and other constitutional requirements. Against this backdrop, the BJP’s decision to give several women leaders important organisational responsibilities adds another dimension to its efforts to project greater participation of women in political leadership.

The reshuffle also comes as the BJP prepares for upcoming electoral contests and seeks to strengthen its grassroots machinery. The new national team represents Nitin Nabin’s first major organisational blueprint as party president and brings together leaders with varied political experience and regional backgrounds. The appointments are aimed at combining organisational continuity with new leadership, while placing greater emphasis on women and younger politicians as the party prepares for the next phase of its political activities.

The group photograph with Prime Minister Modi therefore carried significance beyond a routine political gathering. With women leaders prominently positioned alongside senior party figures, the image projected the BJP’s emphasis on “Nari Shakti” and its message that women should have a visible role within the party’s organisational leadership. The composition of the photograph mirrored the broader changes in the new team, highlighting women as an important component of the BJP’s political and organisational strategy ahead of the next round of electoral challenges.
