BJP Names New State In-Charges For UP, Punjab and Gujarat
BJP names Vinod Tawde, Satish Poonia, Tarun Chugh as new state in-charges.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced new state in-charges for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat as part of an organisational reshuffle ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The appointments came a day after BJP national president Nitin Nabin announced changes to the party's national team, with several experienced leaders receiving key organisational responsibilities.
For Uttar Pradesh, Nabin appointed Vinod Tawde as the BJP's state in-charge, while Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel was named co-in-charge. Dr Satish Poonia has been given responsibility for Punjab, while Tarun Chugh will serve as the party's in-charge for Gujarat. The appointments are expected to play an important role in coordinating the BJP's organisational and electoral preparations in the three states.
Tawde and Poonia were also among the leaders assigned important roles in the BJP's national organisational restructuring announced on Monday. Tawde was retained as a national general secretary, while Poonia was inducted into the post. Both leaders have previously handled organisational and election-related responsibilities for the party, bringing experience to their new assignments.

The BJP's revamped national team includes 13 vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and 16 national secretaries. The party has retained only two of its previous national general secretaries, Tawde and Sunil Bansal, while bringing in leaders including Harish Dwivedi, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel and Sanjay Bhatia. The reshuffle combines experienced leaders with younger faces as the party prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
The latest organisational changes come ahead of several important Assembly elections, with Uttar Pradesh expected to be a particularly significant battleground. Tawde has previously handled major election responsibilities for the BJP, while Chugh has been assigned Gujarat after recently being elected to the Rajya Sabha. The party has also made changes in other organisational positions, including its youth wing, women's wing and IT cell.
The BJP is expected to use the new organisational structure to intensify its preparations for the upcoming elections and strengthen its presence at the state level. The appointments of senior leaders to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat indicate the importance the party is placing on organisational coordination in these politically significant states as it begins preparing for the 2027 Assembly polls.
