BJP MP Arvind Lists Temple Vandalism Cases Since Congress Came to Power in Telangana
BJP leader Dharmapuri Arvind holds the Congress govt morally responsible for rising temple attacks since August 2024 and accuses it of targeting Hindus.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Telangana government over the rising incidents of attacks on Hindu temples in the state. Speaking at a press conference, BJP Lok Sabha MP Dharmapuri Arvind accused the government of creating a climate of fear for the Hindu community, saying the attacks have increased significantly since the Congress assumed power. Arvind held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy morally responsible for the incidents and warned of a potential "Kashmir-style exodus" of Hindus from parts of Telangana, particularly Hyderabad's Old City.
Arvind cited statements like “Congress is Muslim; Muslim is Congress” as contributing to the environment of unrest, claiming that such rhetoric has emboldened attacks on temples. He further accused the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Congress of colluding to target Hindus. Highlighting alleged lapses in law enforcement, he claimed that the police had become politically influenced, arresting Hindus even when they were victims of temple vandalism.
The BJP MP enumerated several temple-related incidents that occurred between August 2024 and January 2026, including vandalism at the Puranapul Myisamma Temple and the Katta Maisamma Temple in Safilguda earlier this month. Drawing a parallel with Hyderabad’s past communal tensions of the 1980s and 1990s, he warned that the current situation could lead to a mass exodus of Hindus similar to events witnessed in Kashmir.

Beyond the temple attacks, Arvind reiterated his long-standing demand to rename Nizamabad as “Indur”, citing historical records like the 1909 Imperial Gazetteer and British-era railway maps. He argued that the name reflects the region’s original identity under King Indradatta, and that the current name recalls the "tyranny" of the Nizam’s rule, which he described as a period of atrocities against Hindus. Arvind asserted that renaming the district would be a matter of "historical justice" and vowed to prioritize this if the BJP wins the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections.
Arvind concluded by challenging the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) and Congress to abandon what he called "family and vote-bank politics," claiming the BJP remains the only party capable of providing inclusive welfare. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s housing and health schemes, he emphasized that these programs deliver benefits without religious discrimination. Arvind also warned the state government that the Hindu community would no longer tolerate attacks on their religious heritage and vowed that the BJP would fight these “conspiracies” at every level.
