BJP Mob Humiliates Congress Leader Over Morphed PM Modi Pic
BJP forces Congress functionary into saree, sparks outrage.
A volatile political showdown unfolded in Dombivli, Thane, as BJP workers allegedly ambushed Congress functionary Prakash Pagare, known as Mama, forcing the 72-year-old to wear a saree in public. The act was retaliation for Pagare posting a morphed image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, escalating tensions between the rival parties in a dramatic street confrontation captured in a viral video.
On Tuesday morning, BJP Kalyan president Nandu Parab led a group of party workers to confront Pagare on Manpada Road. In a brazen move, they draped a costly “shalu” saree around him, humiliating the senior Congress leader in broad daylight. Parab justified the act, stating, “We made Mama Pagare wear a shalu on the street to respond to his attempt to defame the Prime Minister.” The BJP claims the morphed image was a deliberate slight against Modi, warranting their public rebuke.
Pagare, however, alleged the attack went beyond humiliation, accusing the BJP workers of hurling casteist slurs and physically assaulting him. Outraged, he vowed to pursue legal action under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, condemning the “mob mentality” and violation of his dignity. “This assault on my freedom will face consequences,” Pagare asserted, signaling a fierce legal counteroffensive.

Kalyan Congress president Sachin Pote denounced the incident as “an insult to all women” and an “uncivilized attack” on a respected senior leader. He demanded swift and strict action against the BJP workers involved, calling their actions a stain on democratic norms. As the viral video fuels public fury and police gear up to investigate, this incident highlights the growing ferocity of political rivalries in Maharashtra, with both sides digging in for a contentious battle ahead.
