BJP Leader Compares Phone-Tap Case to TV Serial, Targets Congress and BRS
BJP leader Bandi Sanjay questions Congress's intent and SIT independence in Telangana’s phone-tap probe.
BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has sharply criticized the ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal phone-tapping case in Telangana, likening its slow progress to a "never-ending TV serial." Speaking on December 23, 2025, he expressed skepticism about reports that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is preparing notices for former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and his son KT Rama Rao (KTR), the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President. Sanjay questioned the ruling Congress government's intent and ability to pursue the probe effectively, suggesting that notices alone would not lead to real accountability.
Sanjay accused the previous BRS regime of deeply corrupting the once-respected Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), turning it into a tool for political blackmail, illegal surveillance, and extortion. He claimed BRS leaders went so far as to tap the phones of their own family members—including children and sons-in-law—causing rifts in numerous families. He further alleged that intercepted data was used to threaten high-profile industrialists and businessmen, extracting large sums of money through coercion. The BJP leader demanded a comprehensive inquiry that examines not only political surveillance but also the financial extortion angle.
Expressing frustration over the investigation's pace, Sanjay remarked that "episodes of serials that started when this case began have concluded, but this investigation continues to linger without results." He questioned whether the SIT would genuinely expose the masterminds or simply "wash their hands" after issuing symbolic notices to KCR and KTR. The senior BJP figure called on the state government to stop exerting any pressure on the SIT and grant the investigating officers full independence to uncover the full conspiracy.

The comments come as the newly formed nine-member SIT, led by Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, intensifies its probe following testimonies from key former officials, including ex-Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar. Reports indicate that notices to top BRS leadership could be served after the upcoming January Assembly session concludes. Sanjay emphasized the need for a full-scale, transparent inquiry to lay bare all conspiracies before the public, ensuring justice rather than a superficial exercise.
This development highlights the charged political atmosphere in Telangana, where the phone-tapping scandal—initially raised after the Congress came to power in 2023—continues to dominate headlines. With allegations spanning misuse of state intelligence, family surveillance, and financial extortion, the case remains one of the most serious controversies involving the previous administration, with mounting pressure for swift and impartial resolution.
