Bihar Sends Fresh Eviction Notice to Rabri Devi Over Circular Road Bungalow

Bihar allocates Rabri Devi's Circular Road bungalow to a minister and issues a fresh eviction notice.

The Bihar government has issued a fresh directive to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi asking her to vacate the official residence at 10, Circular Road in Patna, a property she has occupied since 2006. The move comes months after an alternative government residence was allotted to her in her capacity as the leader of opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. The latest communication indicates that the Circular Road bungalow has now been assigned to another minister in the state government.

According to an official letter dated May 29, issued by the Building Construction Department, Rabri Devi had earlier been allotted Quarter No. 39, Hardinge Road, Patna, through a departmental order issued on November 25, 2025. Despite the allotment of the new residence, the government stated that the former chief minister has continued to occupy the Circular Road property. The department has now formally reminded her office that the bungalow is no longer designated for her use and must be vacated.

The letter, addressed to the private secretary of the Leader of Opposition, noted that the residence at 10 Circular Road has been allotted to Nand Kishore Ram, Bihar’s minister for animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy development. Government officials have therefore sought the handover of the property so that the new allottee can take possession. The communication represents the latest step in the ongoing administrative process regarding official residential allocations in the state capital.

Rabri Devi had previously declined to shift to the newly allotted residence. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders have argued that the current bungalow is better suited to the needs of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has been dealing with health issues. According to party representatives, the presence of a lift in the Circular Road residence makes it more convenient for the veteran leader. The issue is likely to remain a subject of political discussion as the state government presses for compliance with the latest directive while the RJD leadership considers its response.
