Bihar Results Irrelevant to Bengal, Says TMC Ahead of 2026 Elections
Bengal TMC forecasts 250+ seats despite Bihar landslide.
The Trinamool Congress on Friday rejected any connection between the BJP-led NDA’s decisive victory in Bihar and its prospects in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, asserting that the political dynamics of the two states are fundamentally distinct. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh stated on X that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will secure a fourth consecutive term with more than 250 seats in the 294-member assembly, emphasizing that Bihar’s outcome is driven by local caste equations and alliance strategies that hold no relevance in Bengal.
Ghosh highlighted that West Bengal’s electorate prioritizes development, communal harmony, federal rights, and regional identity—issues central to Banerjee’s governance. He noted that the NDA’s lead in over 180 Bihar seats reflects a fragmented opposition, particularly the Congress’s repeated failure to counter the BJP effectively. The TMC leader observed that Banerjee’s development model is now emulated in several states, including Bihar.
He expressed interest in the future trajectory of the BJP-JD(U) relationship in Bihar, suggesting potential internal challenges despite the current success. Ghosh reiterated TMC’s confidence in overcoming any external interference in Bengal’s electoral process.

Anticipating coordinated efforts by the Election Commission and central agencies to influence the polls, Ghosh pledged that Trinamool will counter such moves through sustained public engagement and organizational strength. He warned that attempts to undermine Bengal’s democratic process will be firmly resisted.
Addressing West Bengal BJP leaders referencing Bihar as a model, Ghosh stated that electoral success cannot be achieved by citing another state’s results while disregarding local sentiment. He affirmed that Banerjee remains the cornerstone of public trust in Bengal, undeterred by outcomes elsewhere.
