Bihar Cabinet Expansion Scheduled Today At Gandhi Maidan With Tight Security Arrangements
Bihar Cabinet expansion at Gandhi Maidan today brings heavy security and major traffic restrictions across Patna.
Patna has been placed under tight security and traffic restrictions as Bihar prepares for a major cabinet expansion ceremony on Thursday at Gandhi Maidan. The swearing-in event, scheduled for 12:10 p.m., will see newly inducted ministers take oath of office and secrecy, administered by the Governor, marking a significant political development in the state.
The expansion comes amid a notable shift in Bihar’s political landscape following the transition of leadership in the state government. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who assumed office on April 14 after Nitish Kumar vacated the post, is leading the latest cabinet reshuffle. The move is being seen as an effort to strengthen the ruling coalition and streamline governance within the state.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by several senior national leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP National President Nitin Nabin, all of whom have already arrived in Patna. Their presence highlights the importance of the event for the ruling alliance, with senior Bharatiya Janata Party leadership closely involved in finalizing the list of ministers through extensive consultations.

Political discussions leading up to the expansion reportedly included coordination with key NDA allies such as Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Chirag Paswan. These consultations were aimed at maintaining balance within the coalition. In another development drawing attention, Samrat Choudhary recently met JD(U) president and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a meeting viewed as a signal of continued unity within the alliance framework.
Authorities have imposed sweeping traffic restrictions across Patna in anticipation of large crowds and the expected movement of VVIP convoys. Several major routes, including stretches between Sheikhpura Mor and the airport, have been completely closed to vehicular movement. Key corridors such as Patel Roundabout, Income Tax Roundabout, and adjoining roads including Harding Road and R-Block have been declared no-entry zones to ensure security and smooth conduct of the event.
Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes, with airport-bound traffic redirected through Jagdeo Path and Raja Bazar. Passengers travelling to Patna Junction have been asked to approach via Karbigahiya to avoid congestion in central areas. Security has also been significantly tightened across key junctions in view of the anticipated presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high-profile dignitaries at the ceremony.
