Bhupendra Patel Launches Digital Self-Enumeration For Census 2027
Gujarat has launched an online self-enumeration system for Census 2027 to enable digital participation.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has formally launched the online self-enumeration process for Census 2027, marking a key step in India’s transition toward a fully digital population count. The Chief Minister initiated the process by completing his own household’s census details on the official online platform, according to an official statement released on Sunday.
The launch signals the beginning of a 15-day self-enumeration window in Gujarat, during which citizens can voluntarily submit their household and demographic details through the government’s digital census portal. The initiative is part of the first phase of Census 2027, which is being implemented in a phased manner across India with a strong emphasis on digital participation and efficiency.
Officials said the self-enumeration system has been designed to make participation more convenient, allowing residents to fill in required information from any location using a secure online interface. Citizens are encouraged to follow official guidelines carefully while entering data to ensure accuracy and completeness. The state has urged widespread participation to improve the quality of census data, which will later support national planning and development policies.

Following the self-enumeration phase, Gujarat will move to the next stage of the census exercise, which includes door-to-door verification and House Listing Operations. These field activities are scheduled to begin in June and will involve a large workforce of census officials collecting and validating data across urban and rural areas.
According to government planning, Census 2027 will be conducted in two main phases nationwide, with the first phase focusing on housing and household data collection and the second phase scheduled for population enumeration in 2027. The introduction of digital tools, including mobile applications and online portals, is expected to streamline the process and reduce manual workload.
Officials have described the self-enumeration initiative as an important step toward modernising census operations in India, improving data accuracy, and encouraging greater citizen participation in one of the country’s most significant statistical exercises.
