Operations at the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport are likely to begin by August, according to recent statements and project updates, as construction nears completion and final preparations gather pace.
Reports indicate that while the airport is expected to be inaugurated around June 2026, full-fledged commercial operations may commence a couple of months later, around August, after completing regulatory clearances and operational readiness checks.
The greenfield airport, being developed near Visakhapatnam in Vizianagaram district, is seen as a major infrastructure boost for Andhra Pradesh. Once operational, it will significantly enhance regional and international connectivity, eventually replacing the existing Visakhapatnam airport for most commercial traffic.

Officials have said the project is progressing ahead of schedule, with a substantial portion of construction already completed. The airport is designed to handle around six million passengers annually in its initial phase, with scope for future expansion based on demand.
In parallel, supporting infrastructure such as road connectivity is also being expedited. Authorities are working to complete key link roads and transport corridors before the airport becomes operational, ensuring smooth access for passengers and cargo movement.
The phased rollout — with inauguration likely in June and operations starting by August — reflects the time required for final safety approvals, airline coordination, and system testing. Aviation authorities typically conduct validation flights and compliance checks before granting full commercial clearance.
Once operational, Bhogapuram Airport is expected to play a crucial role in boosting tourism, trade, and investment in north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The project is also being positioned as a long-term aviation hub, supporting economic growth and improving connectivity across the region.
