Bhajan Lal Sharma Highlights Anti-Conversion Law, ‘Love Jihad’ Issue In Rajasthan

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday highlighted the BJP-led state government's achievements and claimed that measures taken by his government had addressed what he described as the problem of "love jihad" in the state. He also referred to legislation against forced religious conversions and the Disturbed Area Bill, which he described as a measure aimed at preventing forced migration and protecting residents.

Sharma made the remarks while leading a roadshow from Sanganeri Gate to Tripolia Gate in Jaipur on the final day of campaigning for the Municipal Corporation elections. He alleged that incidents described by him as "love jihad" had occurred during the previous Ashok Gehlot-led government and highlighted the legislation introduced by the present administration on religious conversions. He also assured residents that those creating trouble for the public would face legal action.

The Chief Minister also pointed to changes in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota, where the BJP government restored the "one city-one corporation" system after the previous government had created two municipal corporations in each city. He linked the move to the broader functioning of local bodies and argued that BJP-led civic bodies and panchayats, working alongside the state and Central governments, would strengthen local governance and accelerate development.

Sharma highlighted several infrastructure and water projects, including the Ramjal Setu Link Project, the Yamuna Water Agreement and investments in the Indira Gandhi Canal and Ganganahar projects. He also cited the Dewas, Som-Kamla-Amba, Mahi Dam and Brahmani River projects while claiming that Rajasthan was moving towards becoming a power-surplus state. He further highlighted the expansion of Jaipur Metro connectivity from around five kilometres under the previous government to more than 41 kilometres under the current administration.

On employment and recruitment, the Chief Minister claimed that 1,89,000 appointment letters had been issued during the BJP government's tenure, recruitment for another 1,22,000 posts was underway and vacancies for 70,000 additional posts had been created. He also alleged that more than 600 people linked to paper-leak cases had been jailed, while claiming that around 450 examinations had been conducted under the present government without a paper leak.

Sharma appealed to voters to support BJP candidates in the urban local body elections and described the combination of BJP governments at the Centre, state and local levels as a "triple-engine government". The roadshow began after he offered prayers at the Hanuman Ji Temple at Sanganeri Gate and was attended by state BJP leaders, elected representatives, party workers and supporters.
