Bengaluru's Central Ayurveda Research Institute Becomes First in India to Win ISO 15189 Accreditation

CARI Bengaluru becomes India's first Ayurveda institute to earn ISO 15189:2022 lab accreditation.

The Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Bengaluru has achieved a major milestone by securing ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for its clinical laboratory. The recognition covers biochemistry and haematology testing services. It is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of diagnostic results. The accreditation is considered a significant step in strengthening laboratory standards. The announcement was made by the Union Ayush Ministry.

The ministry stated that CARI Bengaluru has become the first institute under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) to receive this accreditation. The certification ensures that patients get accurate, reliable, and safe diagnostic services. It aligns the laboratory with globally accepted quality standards. Officials said this improves trust in Ayurveda-based healthcare systems. The development is being seen as a landmark achievement for the institute.

According to the report, the accreditation marks the transformation of the laboratory from an entry-level NABL-certified facility. It has now evolved into a fully developed accredited centre of excellence. The upgrade reflects major improvements in infrastructure and testing quality. It also highlights continuous efforts to modernise Ayurvedic diagnostic services. Authorities believe this will further enhance patient care outcomes.

Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said that ISO 15189:2022 accreditation ensures highly reliable diagnostic services. He added that such standards are essential for effective treatment and better health outcomes. The minister noted that this achievement reflects the government’s commitment to improving Ayush infrastructure. It also shows the integration of modern quality systems with traditional medicine practices. The development is being viewed as a boost to the sector’s credibility.

Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, also praised the achievement. He said recognition in biochemistry and haematology is a major step forward. It strengthens the integration of high-quality diagnostics with traditional medicine systems. Officials believe this will encourage more institutes to adopt global standards. The accreditation is expected to improve research, diagnosis, and patient trust in Ayurveda.
