Bengaluru Rains: 7 Dead In Hospital Wall Collapse; PM Modi Announces Aid

Bowring Hospital wall collapses on vendors during Bengaluru rains; seven dead.

At least seven people were killed after a hospital boundary wall collapsed in rain-hit Bengaluru, officials said, as heavy downpours lashed the city and triggered multiple incidents of flooding and structural damage. Authorities confirmed that the collapse occurred amid intense rainfall, trapping victims under debris and prompting an immediate rescue operation.

Emergency response teams, including local police and disaster relief personnel, rushed to the site to carry out search and rescue efforts. Several injured individuals were pulled from the rubble and shifted to nearby medical facilities, while operations continued for hours to ensure no one remained trapped. Officials said the condition of some of the injured remains critical.

Karnataka authorities have ordered a probe into the incident to determine whether negligence or structural weaknesses contributed to the collapse. Preliminary assessments suggest that continuous rainfall may have weakened the wall, but investigators will examine construction quality, maintenance records, and compliance with safety norms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims and announced ex-gratia compensation for those affected. Financial assistance has been sanctioned for the next of kin of the deceased as well as for those injured in the incident, in line with disaster relief norms.

The tragedy comes as Bengaluru grapples with widespread disruption caused by heavy rains, including waterlogging, traffic snarls, and damage to infrastructure across several parts of the city. Civic authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid vulnerable structures, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

As rainfall activity continues, officials said monitoring systems have been intensified and emergency teams remain on standby to respond to further incidents. The probe into the collapse is expected to provide clarity on accountability while shaping preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
