Bengaluru Police Reject Viral ‘Zombie Drug’ Claim After Medical Report

Bengaluru police clarified that a viral “zombie drug” claim was false after medical tests showed no narcotics.

Bengaluru police on Thursday clarified that a viral video showing a man in a disoriented and motionless state on a city road is not linked to any narcotic or so-called “zombie drug,” countering widespread social media speculation. The incident had triggered public concern online, with users alleging the man may have been under the influence of a synthetic drug, though authorities have now dismissed those claims.

According to the Bangalore City Police, the individual seen in the video was traced near the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in Yelahanka after the footage began circulating widely on social media platforms. Police said he was immediately taken for a detailed medical examination to determine the cause of his condition.

Medical reports confirmed that no traces of narcotic or psychotropic substances were found in his system. Instead, officials stated that the man was suffering from arthritis and had reportedly consumed prescribed pain medication along with alcohol, which led to his disoriented state as seen in the video. Authorities added that this combination likely contributed to his unusual behaviour.

Police further clarified that the individual had come to Bengaluru in search of employment and had been residing in the city for the past three months. They emphasised that initial findings point to a medical and substance-related reaction rather than any illegal drug use, while additional inquiry is still underway.

The viral clip had fuelled rumours about the possible presence of a so-called “zombie drug” in the city, raising public concern. However, police urged citizens not to circulate unverified information, warning that such misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and damage reputations. They reiterated their commitment to tackling drug abuse while appealing to the public to report genuine incidents directly to authorities instead of sharing speculative content online.
