Bengaluru In Chaos After Storm Kills 10, Floods Roads And Bookstore

Storm‑lashed Bengaluru sees 10 deaths, choked roads and Church Street bookstore flooded.

Heavy rainfall and stormy weather have thrown Bengaluru into widespread disruption, leaving 10 people dead, roads waterlogged, and key areas—including commercial zones—badly affected, as the city struggles with severe flooding and infrastructure breakdown.

The downpour, which intensified overnight, caused large-scale waterlogging across major arterial roads, leading to massive traffic congestion and stranded commuters. Several low-lying areas reported flooding, with vehicles submerged and public transport services severely disrupted.

Among the most striking impacts was the flooding of a popular bookstore in the city, where rainwater entered the premises and damaged stock, highlighting the scale of urban drainage failures. Residents and shop owners in affected areas reported significant property damage as rainwater entered homes and commercial establishments.

Authorities confirmed that at least 10 deaths were reported due to rain-related incidents, including wall collapses, electrocution, and falling debris. Emergency response teams have been deployed across affected zones to carry out rescue and relief operations, while damage assessments are underway.

The situation has once again raised concerns over Bengaluru’s urban infrastructure and stormwater management systems. Experts and civic groups have long warned that rapid urbanisation, encroachment of drainage channels, and inadequate stormwater infrastructure are contributing to recurring flooding during intense rainfall events.

As recovery efforts continue, officials have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid waterlogged areas. The city administration is also expected to review preparedness measures as forecasts indicate the possibility of further rain in the coming days.
