Bengal BJP Government Rolls Out Rs 3,000 Monthly For Women

The BJP government finalises the Annapurna Bhandar scheme: Rs 3,000 monthly for Bengal women.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is preparing to roll out a major welfare initiative in West Bengal by providing monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000 to eligible women beneficiaries under a new scheme titled ‘Annapurna Bhandar’. According to reports on Monday, the scheme is expected to be implemented from June 2026 onwards, marking one of the BJP’s key election promises following its decisive victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections. The move is being viewed as a significant step by the newly elected government to strengthen its welfare-focused agenda in the state.

The proposed scheme comes shortly after the BJP secured a sweeping electoral win in West Bengal, winning 206 out of the 294 Assembly seats and comfortably crossing the majority mark. The victory marked a major political shift in the state as the BJP ended the long-standing rule of the Trinamool Congress and defeated party chief Mamata Banerjee. The election outcome is considered one of the party’s most significant political breakthroughs in eastern India and is expected to reshape the state’s welfare and governance policies over the coming years.

Under the Annapurna Bhandar scheme, eligible women are expected to receive direct monthly financial support credited into their bank accounts. While detailed eligibility criteria and implementation guidelines are yet to be officially announced, the initiative is likely to focus on supporting economically weaker sections and improving household financial stability. Officials are reportedly working on the final framework for the rollout, including beneficiary identification, verification systems, and fund distribution mechanisms before the scheme formally begins in June.

The BJP has previously introduced similar women-centric welfare programmes in other states governed by the party. Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana and Maharashtra’s CM Laadki Bahin Yojana are among the examples frequently cited by party leaders while discussing social welfare initiatives aimed at women. These schemes have largely focused on providing direct cash transfers to women beneficiaries to support daily household expenses, improve economic participation, and strengthen financial independence among women from low-income families.

Political observers believe the introduction of Annapurna Bhandar in West Bengal could become one of the defining policy decisions of the new government during its initial months in office. Welfare schemes targeted at women voters have increasingly emerged as a major electoral strategy across several Indian states in recent years, with parties attempting to build stronger grassroots support through direct benefit transfer programmes. Analysts also note that successful implementation of the scheme could play a crucial role in shaping public perception of the BJP’s governance model in the state.

The announcement has already sparked significant public and political attention across West Bengal, where economic welfare and subsidy-based schemes remain central issues in state politics. Supporters of the initiative have described it as a major relief measure for women and families facing financial pressures, while opposition leaders are expected to closely scrutinise its implementation and funding structure. With the proposed launch date approaching, the government is likely to release additional details regarding registration procedures, beneficiary coverage, and administrative guidelines in the coming weeks.
