BC Khanduri Laid To Rest With Full State Honours In Uttarakhand

BC Khanduri cremated with full state honours in Uttarakhand.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Union minister Major General (retd) B. C. Khanduri was cremated with full state honours at the Kharkhari crematorium in Haridwar on Wednesday, following his death in Dehradun at the age of 91.Khanduri, widely respected for his reputation of discipline, simplicity, and administrative integrity, was accorded a ceremonial farewell with a guard of honour presented by Army and police personnel.

A large gathering of political leaders, security officials, family members, and citizens attended the final rites.His son, Manish Khanduri, performed the last rites and lit the funeral pyre, as the veteran leader was laid to rest amid emotional scenes. His daughter, Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, remembered him as a leader who combined military discipline with dedicated public service and strong ethical values.

Several senior political leaders from across parties attended the funeral, including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, former chief ministers and Union ministers, along with legislators, administrative officials, and spiritual leaders who paid their last respects.

Khanduri’s political career was marked by his tenure as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and his earlier service as a Union minister, where he was known for his focus on governance reforms and accountability in public administration. His background in the Indian Army, where he served as a Major General, was often reflected in his disciplined approach to governance.

Leaders across the political spectrum have acknowledged his contributions to public life, particularly his emphasis on transparency and structured administration. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Uttarakhand’s political history.The state government’s decision to accord full state honours underscored his stature as a senior statesman, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the country.
