Bangladeshi Minor Rescued as NIA Cracks Human Trafficking Network

Two arrested in major anti-trafficking operation in West Bengal.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has struck a major blow against human trafficking, arresting two men, Amir Ali Shekh and Amal Krishna Mondal, in West Bengal for their alleged role in the illegal trafficking of a minor Bangladeshi girl. The arrests followed extensive searches conducted on Saturday across five locations in Kolkata and Bangaon, North 24 Parganas district, as part of a targeted operation to dismantle a cross-border trafficking network.

According to an NIA statement, the victim was lured into India under the false promise of employment, only to be subjected to exploitation. The agency’s raids uncovered a significant haul of incriminating evidence, including large amounts of Indian, Bangladeshi, and other foreign currencies, as well as documents that point to the scale of the illicit operation. These seizures provide critical leads in unraveling the broader network responsible for trafficking vulnerable girls from Bangladesh into India.

The NIA’s operation highlights the agency’s relentless efforts to combat human trafficking, a pervasive issue along India’s porous borders. By apprehending Shekh and Mondal, both residents of North 24 Parganas, the NIA has disrupted a key link in the trafficking chain, sending a strong message to those exploiting vulnerable individuals for profit. The agency’s ongoing investigations aim to identify and apprehend other members of this network, ensuring justice for victims and preventing further crimes.

This crackdown comes as part of the NIA’s broader mandate to address organized crime, particularly in regions like West Bengal, which shares a long and challenging border with Bangladesh. The operation underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to curb human trafficking and protect vulnerable populations from exploitation. As the investigation progresses, the NIA is expected to uncover additional details about the syndicate’s operations, further strengthening India’s fight against this heinous crime.
