Bakery Owner Jumps From 17th Floor Minutes After Guard’s Rescue Attempt
Sunil Motilal Sadarangani, owner of Multani Bakery, dies by suicide after a failed intervention by a building guard.
Sunil Motilal Sadarangani, the 59-year-old owner of the renowned Multani Bakery in Solapur, Maharashtra, died by suicide on Friday afternoon by jumping from the 17th floor of Panash Apartments on Vijaypur Road. Eyewitnesses described him arriving at the building in a distressed state, deliberately climbing the stairs instead of taking the elevator, and heading straight to the rooftop. A viral video captured his final moments, showing him standing on the ledge with hands folded in prayer, signaling deep despair before the fatal leap.
Residents quickly spotted Sadarangani on the rooftop and alerted the building's security guard, who rushed to intervene. The guard engaged him in conversation, successfully persuading him to step down from the ledge and bringing him inside, offering a glimmer of hope. Eyewitness accounts highlight the guard's calm demeanor, which momentarily seemed to de-escalate the situation as Sadarangani appeared pacified.
However, tragedy struck moments later when Sadarangani claimed he had left his keys upstairs and needed to retrieve them. Trusting his words, the guard allowed him to return to the 17th floor alone. In a heartbreaking deception, Sadarangani immediately proceeded to the rooftop and jumped, dying instantly upon impact with the ground below.

The incident, unfolding in broad daylight, has left the community reeling, with the viral video amplifying the shock across social media.
Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to this extreme step. Preliminary reports suggest personal or business-related stress, though no suicide note was found. Sadarangani's iconic Multani Bakery, a Solapur landmark known for its traditional sweets and breads, now faces an uncertain future amid the grief.
