Babul Supriyo Posts Video of His Kids Outside MS Dhoni’s Ranchi Farmhouse

Babul Supriyo recounts his children’s failed but adorable attempt to meet MS Dhoni at his Ranchi home.

A heartwarming video shared by singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo has gone viral, capturing his young daughter Naina and nephew desperately trying to gain entry into former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni's farmhouse in Ranchi. The children, accompanied by their grandparents on a trip to the Jharkhand capital, made the gated residence a must-visit stop, treating it like a pilgrimage site for fans of the legendary cricketer affectionately known as "Thala". Supriyo compared the excitement to Shah Rukh Khan devotees flocking to Mannat in Mumbai, highlighting Dhoni's enduring popularity. Despite their best efforts, including name-dropping and handing over Supriyo's ministerial card to the watchman, the youngsters were politely turned away.

In his X post, Supriyo recounted the amusing incident with humour, noting how the children escalated their pleas by mentioning every influential name they believed could help secure Dhoni's contact number. When they eventually called him for assistance, he explained it was impossible, as very few people have access to Dhoni's phone, and he rarely uses it. The politician playfully set the caption to the tune of KL Saigal's classic sad song "Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya", underscoring the children's disappointment. He admitted to being "brutally bullied and trolled" by them afterward with messages and voice notes for failing to arrange a meeting.

Supriyo, who serves as West Bengal's Minister for Information Technology & Electronics and Public Enterprises under the Mamata Banerjee government, emphasised the deeper sentiment behind the episode. He described it as "heartwarming" to witness the immense love Dhoni commands across generations, prompting him to call for a bow in respect. The post quickly gained traction online, resonating with fans who relate to Dhoni's status as a national icon even years after his international retirement. Dhoni, who continues to play in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, maintains a low-profile life at his sprawling Ranchi farmhouse.

The viral clip has sparked widespread amusement and admiration on social media, with many praising Dhoni's ability to inspire such devotion from children. Comments flooded in echoing Supriyo's sentiments about #ThalaForAReason, reinforcing the cricketer's unique place in Indian hearts. For Supriyo, a former BJP MP who switched to TMC, the incident also showcased a lighter, personal side amid his political duties.

As the video continues to circulate, it serves as a reminder of Dhoni's lasting legacy beyond the cricket field. From leading India to multiple world titles to his calm demeanour, the former captain remains a role model for millions. Incidents like this underscore why fans young and old view a glimpse of him or his home as a cherished experience, cementing his position as one of India's most beloved sports figures.
