UTTARAKHAND AVALANCHE..! 41 Workers Trapped; Rescue Operations Underway

Ten workers are said to have been rescued and hospitalised

An avalanche hit Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, reportedly burying 57 workers in Mana village, close to the Indo-Tibetan border. Ten of the workers have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana village in critical condition, according to news reports.

The rescue operation is underway. The incident occurred at a place 3 km ahead of Badrinath Dham, near the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp. The workers were engaged in road construction. Though  ambulances have been sent to the location, but owing to heavy snowfall, there has been a delay. 

Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand confirmed that out of the 57 workers trapped by the avalanche, "10 have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana in critical condition.” The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district administration, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and BRO teams are pressed into the service. 

Saddened by the avalanche, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on his X page, "A sad news was received about many workers being buried under avalanche during the construction work being carried out by BRO near Mana Village in Chamoli district. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by ITB, BRO and other rescue teams. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all."

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning saying thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely over Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh and with heavy rainfall (up to 12 cm) over Punjab and with very heavy rainfall (up to 20cm) over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand up to late night hours of 28th February 2025.
