Authorities Probe ‘X Storm’ Social Media Group In Connection With Noida Workers’ Protest
Probe examines alleged role of ‘X Storm’ group in amplifying Noida workers’ protest online.
Investigators probing the recent workers’ protest in Noida have turned their attention to a social media group on X (formerly Twitter), suspecting it may have played a role in mobilising participants and amplifying the agitation, officials familiar with the matter said.
According to preliminary findings, the group—described by authorities as an “X storm” network—allegedly coordinated posts, hashtags, and messaging around the protest, helping it gain rapid traction online. Police sources indicated that the digital activity is being examined to determine whether it was organic or part of a more structured campaign to influence turnout and sentiment.
The protest, which involved a large number of workers from industrial units in and around Noida, was triggered by grievances related to wages, working conditions, and alleged delays in payments. While demonstrations initially remained peaceful, tensions escalated at certain points, prompting a police response and raising concerns about law and order.

Officials said cyber teams are now analysing accounts linked to the group, including their posting patterns, connections, and origin points. Authorities are also working to identify administrators and key contributors to assess whether any violations of law, including incitement or misinformation, may have occurred.
Law enforcement agencies have emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached yet. “We are examining all aspects, including the role of social media, to establish facts,” a senior official said, adding that any action would be based on evidence.
The development highlights the growing role of social media platforms in shaping public mobilisation and discourse. Experts note that while digital tools can help amplify legitimate concerns, they can also complicate enforcement efforts when coordination crosses into unlawful territory, making such investigations increasingly complex.
