Austrian Content Creator Addresses Misconceptions About India's Climate and Culture

An Austrian content creator, who is married to an Indian man, has shared her experiences of travelling across India to challenge several common stereotypes about the country. In an Instagram post, she said many widely held beliefs fail to capture India's diversity, landscapes, climate and culture. Drawing from her personal experiences, she explained that the country offers far more variety than is often portrayed.

Addressing the perception that India is dirty, she acknowledged that cleanliness remains an issue in some places but said this does not represent the entire country. According to her, every nation has areas affected by waste or pollution. She added that India is also home to breathtaking mountains, untouched natural landscapes, fresh rivers, beautiful villages and communities that take pride in keeping their surroundings clean.

She also challenged the belief that India is always crowded and chaotic. While noting that major cities can be busy and noisy, she pointed out that the country also has peaceful mountains, quiet beaches, forests, villages and places where visitors can experience complete silence. She further dismissed the idea that India is hot throughout the year, highlighting the Himalayas and Ladakh, where temperatures can fall well below freezing and snowfall is common.

Speaking about food and everyday life, the content creator said food safety depends on choosing where to eat, just as it does in any other country. She said India has countless clean restaurants, cafés and food outlets where visitors can enjoy meals safely. She also described India's many distinct aromas, saying the country offers a blend of spices, flowers, temples, incense, nature and regional cuisines, making every destination unique.

Highlighting India's cultural richness, she described it as one of the most diverse countries in the world. She said people from South India, the Northeast, the Himalayas and Rajasthan can differ significantly in appearance, language, customs and traditions. Reflecting on her own travels, she added that while no country is completely safe, she found many Indians to be warm, welcoming and helpful, with some treating her like family. She advised travellers to use common sense wherever they travel.

The content creator also acknowledged that poverty exists in India and described it as heartbreaking. However, she said the country's history and identity are far more complex than many assume, noting that India was once among the world's richest regions. She concluded her post with photographs from her travels, using images of peaceful landscapes and diverse locations to challenge common misconceptions and encourage people to see India beyond stereotypes.
