Astronaut Shukla: World Awaits Gaganyaan Launch
Shukla shares mission excitement with PM Modi.
Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, fresh from his Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening to discuss the global enthusiasm surrounding India’s Gaganyaan mission. In a video shared on Tuesday, Shukla revealed that scientists and crewmates worldwide are captivated by India’s ambitious human spaceflight program, with many expressing eagerness to witness its launch. “My crewmates were so excited they even asked for signed declarations to be invited to the Gaganyaan launch,” Shukla told the Prime Minister, highlighting the mission’s international appeal.
During the interaction, Shukla shared vivid details of his time aboard the ISS, including adapting to microgravity and conducting critical experiments in the orbital laboratory. He emphasized that the global scientific community is keen to collaborate with India on its space endeavors, with some even joking about wanting to “travel in our vehicle.” The Gaganyaan mission, set to be India’s first human spaceflight in 2027, has become a symbol of the nation’s growing prowess in space exploration.
Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of building a robust astronaut corps, suggesting a pool of 40-50 astronauts to support India’s future missions. “Your journey is just the beginning,” Modi remarked, pointing to India’s bold plans, including establishing its own space station by 2035 and landing an astronaut on the moon by 2040. Shukla’s mission, Modi noted, provides invaluable experience for these goals.
