Assam Targets Delays in Key Infrastructure Projects
Assam government demands swift action on stalled projects.
The Assam government, led by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, on Saturday pressed Central agencies and stakeholders to resolve pending issues swiftly to accelerate key infrastructure projects across the state. During the 10th Monthly Review Meeting held in hybrid mode, Kota reviewed progress on initiatives ranging from highway crossings to railway upgrades and airport development.
Kota directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), district commissioners (DCs), and the Power department to expedite clearances for highway crossings in Barpeta, Nagaon, Cachar, and Bongaigaon, critical for substations and distribution lines. The Guwahati Ring Road Project was prioritized, with DCs of Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, and Darrang tasked to appoint dedicated land acquisition officers to streamline processes.
Railway enhancements were also addressed, with DCs of Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh instructed to coordinate with Northeast Frontier Railway for converting 10 level crossings into overbridges or underpasses. Tinsukia’s DC was further directed to curb encroachments on railway land and monitor the Amrit Bharat station platform’s progress.
