Assam Police Hit Drug Mafia With ‘Bollywood-Style Beating’ After Seizing Massive Contraband

Assam police seized major contraband in three raids as CM Sarma praised their ‘Bollywood-style beating.’

Assam Police delivered a major blow to the region’s narcotics network with three back-to-back operations in Karbi Anglong district, seizing contraband worth over ₹3 crore and arresting one suspect. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the raids on Thursday night as a “Bollywood-style beating” for the drug mafia.

The haul included 255.641 kg of ganja valued at approximately ₹1.2 crore, 1.985 kg of morphine worth nearly ₹1.9 crore, and 9.44 kg of opium priced at ₹47.5 lakh. Sarma praised the force on X as “Assam’s real-life Avengers,” underscoring the state’s intensified Assam Against Drugs campaign.

In a related development across the border, Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Manipur Police jointly destroyed around 10 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Songlung village, Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on Thursday. The fields could have yielded approximately 70 kg of opium worth several crores. Three makeshift huts used for processing were also razed.

This follows a similar joint operation on November 16 that eradicated 25 acres of illicit poppy fields in Loibol Khullen, Kangpokpi, with a potential yield of over 170 kg of opium. Authorities described both Manipur operations as critical strikes against networks funding insurgency and anti-national activities in the Northeast.
