Assam Launches Orunodoi 3.0: Financial Aid Expanded to 38 Lakh Families
Massive scheme now aids 38 lakh families monthly.
Assam government launched 'Orunodoi 3.0' on Tuesday, expanding its flagship financial support scheme to cover over 38 lakh families, making it the state’s largest anti-poverty initiative to date. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the rollout, highlighting the scheme’s role in uplifting women and families across Assam.
Under Orunodoi 3.0, eligible women from 38 lakh households will receive a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,250, along with an additional Rs 250 subsidy for purchasing LPG cylinders. “This is a transformative step toward ensuring dignity and economic stability for our people,” Sarma said during the launch event in Guwahati. He also teased a “special surprise” for February 2026, keeping details under wraps to build anticipation.
Launched in 2020, the Orunodoi scheme has been a cornerstone of Assam’s welfare efforts, providing direct cash transfers to women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Sarma emphasized that the program has significantly reduced poverty, with leading reports showcasing its impact on improving living standards. “Orunodoi 3.0 aligns with our vision of Antyodaya—uplifting the poorest of the poor,” he stated.

Beyond cash transfers, the government is bolstering support through complementary initiatives, including free rice distribution, subsidized pulses, affordable LPG cylinders, free education, incentives for girl child education, and free healthcare services. These measures aim to create a robust safety net for Assam’s underprivileged communities.
Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further expanding Orunodoi’s reach and enhancing its effectiveness. “No poor family will be left behind,” he declared, underscoring the scheme’s role in fostering inclusive growth. The expansion has been widely welcomed, with beneficiaries expressing gratitude for the financial relief that empowers them to meet essential needs and live with dignity.
As Assam gears up for the “special surprise” next year, the state continues to set a benchmark for large-scale welfare programs, positioning Orunodoi 3.0 as a model for poverty alleviation nationwide.
